WHAT IS A BONG?

A bong is a filtration device generally used for smoking tobacco and cannabis. It consists of a water reservoir (usually in the form of a beaker) which is connected to a pipe that has a bowl in the middle from which smoke is drawn through the use of suction produced by the user inhaling. The smoke travels through the water inside the bong and when it emerges, it is cooled due to being in contact with the cool surfaces inside the bong and vaporized due to coming into contact with the water at an entry temperature lower than that of combustion. This forces more particles in each puff to enter your lungs instead of staying in the bong, thus giving you a stronger hit and bigger clouds. Bongs are often also used for smoking other, more traditional substances such as tobacco and opium as well as some legal herbs.

GLASS:

A glass bong is a cylindrical-shaped smoking device made up of 3 main parts, the mouthpiece, the body and the bowl. The water chamber is the part of the bong that holds the water and allows smoke to mix with it. The filtering process then cools down and makes it easier to inhale. Different bong shapes make use of different filtration processes, while some make use of no filtration at all.

WOOD:

Wood bongs are typically made from bamboo and come in different sizes, with some models reaching up to four feet in height. Some bongs are simple, while others have many elaborate designs. These pieces were originally very rare, but they have become very popular in recent years. Bongs made of wood are simple in design and lightweight, making them easy to slip in a small bag or backpack. The one-of-a-kind designs engraved in the wooden surface can add aesthetic value to the bong.

PLASTIC:

The plastic bong has become a common household item and is used commonly among smokers. The reason for this is simple – plastic bongs are much cheaper than traditional glass bongs and they can be taken anywhere resulting in more convenience. The next time you’re looking for a new water pipe to upgrade your smoking experience, consider picking up a plastic bong instead.

SILICONE:

Silicone bongs are especially popular when smoking cannabis because they do not cause the combustion of the material, which produces serious carcinogens and other toxins contained in smoke. It ‘s also non-breakable and easier to wash than glass bongs, which makes it an ideal choice for smokers who are not yet confident enough to use traditional glass bongs.

WHAT IS A BONG USED FOR?

Bongs have been used for a variety of reasons throughout the years. Whether it is for tobacco use, medicinal or sometimes even spiritual, bongs are made for one purpose and that’s to inhale smoke.

The bong has been around for thousands of years and dates back as far as the ancient Chinese and Indians. Since it’s creation, the bong is usually made with glass. Now days however, with technology growing more rapidly and new innovations taking place, more people are using bongs made with stainless steel or acrylic.

Today, a bong is used most often by smoking enthusiasts who enjoy the science of using the water filtration to cool down the smoke and introduce it to a larger surface area of your lungs, making the overall experience much smoother and more enjoyable.

ARE BONGS ILLEGAL?

We have taken the time to research different laws and regulations across the United States to help you as a consumer, know what is legal and what is not. The answer to this question all depends on your state, city and even the law enforcement officer who crosses your path. Many people get busted for having a bong because they carry it around with them in public.

It’s important to keep in mind that many states have decriminalized or legalized cannabis for medicinal and recreational use.

DOES A BONG FILTER SMOKE?

Bongs are designed to filter and cool smoke. They do a great job at filtering, but do they really filter smoke? Most bongs feature ice chambers that the smoke passes through on its way to the mouthpiece. Ice is seldom found in nature in its solid form, but when it melts and re-freezes, it forms a layer of tiny air bubbles between the ice layers. These bubbles act like a sponge by soaking up extra moisture from the water and acting as natural scrubbers for impurities in the smoke.

HOW MUCH DO BONGS COST?

Bongs also vary in price depending on the size and accessories. A small 1 foot bong, usable but not very impressive looking, costs around $70. However, a large 2 foot bong with a lot of interesting features can cost several hundred dollars. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for, so if you’re willing to spend over $100 you should be able to find a good quality bong. How much your looking to spend will determine how high quality you can go when selecting your next piece.

SMOKING BONG vs BOWL?

Smoking a bong is in many ways different than smoking a bowl. When using a bong, you take a larger hit than when using a pipe or other smoking apparatus. Because of the nature of bongs the hit is more intense and smoking a bong therefore more quickly causes you to reach your tolerance threshold than does other methods
